Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., and Mandela Make a Change Mohandas Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., and Mandela, all had a vision of a world where equality was amongst the different races. The leaders decided to lead protests in favor of equality. This led to a lot of diversity between views. Violence broke out against the protesters but they were determined to fight for their beliefs. Peacefully protesting, completely avoiding violence, and accepting punishments, were all reasons these leaders’ movements could be considered successful today.

These two men are very different, and accomplished two very different goals, but their beginnings were the same. They were both born poor, and had to work their way to the top. Many failures later, (more for Lincoln, it seemed), and the two became very powerful. One of them used his failures for good, and one for bad.

They began making improvements which encouraged their people to believe that prosperous times await them. This notion would unfortunately turn out as an illusion. Both figures would eventually rule by decree. Despite treading on different paths of ruling, both figures still find some commonalities.
Jefferson and King: Advocates for Change In their respective eras, both Thomas Jefferson and Martin Luther King Jr. advocated for change in their societies through direct action. However, they had different visions of how to take action. Both urged that in order to make this change, unjust laws needed to be broken and the subsequent consequences must be faced.
Civil Disobedience by Thoreau is the refusal to obey government demands or commands and nonresistance to consequent arrest and punishment this had an extreme effect on Martin Luther King Jr and Mahatma Gandhi. They were fighting for different beliefs. However they both had the same believes about civil disobedience and they both end in the same place, jail. In the first place Gandhi believed that the only way to confronted injustice was with non-violent methods.

One man many people think of when being a leader to fight for his beliefs of the people is Jesus Christ. Jesus is loved by many and hated by the powerful, just like these three other men, but their is one comparison that has been made to a certain protagonist of ancient times. One example would be that both of them were activists that fought against racial oppression. Both of them also learned and gained a new perspective on life after their respective prison experiences. While Malcolm learned how to read and write (X 633) at about an 8th grade level with no prior education, Nelson Mandela learned that “man’s goodness is a flame that can be hidden but never extinguished” (Mandela 734). They were both militant at one point in their lives to advance the movements in which they were involved. With these similarities, people could see the parallels of who they were as people.
Thoreau and Gandhi have a similarity, they both were locked up in prison. The reason why Gandhi and Thoreau were locked up is because people thought it had to do something with the government. The government would see Gandhi and Thoreau as a threat to society, because they think both Gandhi and Thoreau is trying to overthrow the government. Gandhi’s writing happens before the protest begins, and Thoreau’s writing happens when he is in jail for not paying the poll tax. Another similarities with Gandhi and Thoreau is when they wrote their expressions against the laws.
I didn 't always know what career I wanted to go into. The first time I was in the position where I had to decide was in the eighth grade. For the yearbook, I had to give the name of the high school I planned to attend and what profession I chose to go into. The scraping of the lead against the paper made me feel tense. Everyone else had an idea of what they wanted to do in the future.
A great example of this would be Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin who were both political leaders of their countries, Germany and Russia and wanted greatness for their countries and arguably for themselves as well. Both countries did become recognisable super powers. However, it did not last long as the negative effects on the citizens within unfortunately outweighed the the shortlived greatness of both countries. These dictators had similar idealistics and the punishment was heavy for those who opposed their opinions or ideas, it sometimes ended in death or exilement to concentration camps. Each dictator had a strong belief that their vision for their country was the best one.
One of the greatest leaders that greatly impacted society and still influences culture today is Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi was an advocate for peaceful resistance, he believed in standing up against injustices with peace. On the contrary, there is another great author who impacted society with his literature, and his name is Henry David Thoreau. Henry Thoreau believed in a much different manner of resisting in society. He believed in nonconforming and breaking the law.
