Poetry has been around longer than the written word, it is unknown when poetry began the be considered an art form but the words have, for a longer time than anyone knows, had the power to move the heart and soul of man and woman. The first account of “pen taken to paper” can be linked to the Greek. From “The Epic of Gilgamesh” to “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou, poems stay with a person for as long as they are on this earth. In the poem “O Captain! My Captain!” the speaker has a very strong tie to the captain. If it were placed into the context of this day and age one could call him a fanatic. By the tone of his words, it could be said that he has a strong devotion and an honest love for the dead captain. By seeing the captain through the speaker’s
