In order to make Yuma a safer place to farm and to live the,Hoover Dam was needed to be built. Without the YCWUA, Yuma County Water Users’ Association, the Hoover dam wouldn’t have been built to control the water flow. Yuma would still have flooding regularly and we wouldn’t have the agriculture that we do today. “It wasn’t until Hoover Dam was built in the 1930s that the river was controlled and the valley and city were protected, he said. “Hoover wasn’t part of the Yuma Project, but it influenced it.”
He believes the only way to save the lake is if a federal intervention
However, this aspect is not something that bothers Boswell and diverts the topic into his “heroic fights to defy gravity and dewater the lake” (Arax and Wartzman 11). Around the 1960s, California had historic amounts of snow, which began to thaw in mid-February, causing flooding. Boswell and other farmers stressed how to redirect the flooding away from the fields. They “installed fifty gargantuan pumps along the Tule to keep the river from jumping its banks” (Arax and Wartzman 12). Unfortunately, more rain toppled Kings County.
Yuma’s Irrigation Intro: Yuma's irrigation in the past was horrible but has gotten better throughout the years. In the past there was always flood incidents due to the river being uncontrolled and overflowing. With negatives comes positives, in this case the hoover dam helped us control the colorado river which was and still is one our main resources. People would save large amounts of money because it was not needed to be used on distillation payments.

In the town of Johnstown they had steal industries that were booming, and it gave steady paychecks to the workers who worked really hard and long shifts of 12 hours long 6 days a week. Since the town was in a valley with hills surrounding it, it didn't have much of a chance if a flood ever occurred. But the people of Johnstown had no idea of the risk they were at. There was a man made lake that was held by a dam that was made of earth but it was so poorly built that it sagged in the middle and leaked, and it was not easy to release water if it ever became too full. In late May of 1889 came clouds of rain as it rained it filled up the reservoir.

By recognizing that the proposal is not a quick fix and that adding parks is costly, the author demonstrates that they are a reasonable and realistic voice in the discussion. Thus, the author contributes to the debate. The author's credibility is enhanced by their use of logos and ethos, which also contributes to the greater persuasiveness of the argument. One of the potential flaws of the article is that the author needs to consider the perspective of persons who may be opposed to the idea of bringing more parks to Dallas.
But in the views of the majority, The beauty of the Hetch Hetchy will be preserved despite the construction of the Hetch Hetchy dam. In his testimony before the House Committee on the Public Lands, Pinchot states, "You might say from the standpoint of enjoyment of beauty and the greatest good to the greatest number, they will be conserved by the passage of the bill, and there will be a great deal more use of the beauty of the park then there is now” (Pinchot 2). Simply said, the construction of the many roads and trails will lead to even more accessible beauty of the Yosemite. In addition, John Freeman’s still image, “Photo of the Proposed Hetch Hetchy Reservoir,” displays both a clear, crystalline body of water, and beautiful green trees on the faces of the mountains that cave out. The Hetch Hetchy dam would still be as naturally beautiful as it was before when it was preserved, and along with that, the construction of the dam will benefit the greatest number of
Grand Valley State University and Western Michigan University both have a lot of similar things in common. Although they are similar, they both have their differences. My decisions between Grand Valley and Western are based off of: location, my major, and food/meal. Grand Valleys location is about one hour from Western. From my house, Grand Valley is 2 hours away; compared to Western which is only an hour.
The first white settlers that came to Florida thought it was a good idea to drain the Everglades, but they were wrong. Since those early settlers drained the Everglades we have altered the water system. On page 113 paragraph 3 it says “ The streams were dredged, and the Everglades were nearly drained entirely.” Thanks to those settlers we many never get the Everglades back to the way it used to
To put it simply, commons is defined as “land and resources belonging to or affecting the whole of a community” (Oxford Dictionary, 2018). The two key characteristics of a commons is that it is hard to exclude others from using it and it is subtractable, meaning it has finite quantity and declines through use/over time (Thorn, 2018). These characteristics can be related not directly to the dams but to the rivers they dam. For example, the Elwha River as shown in the film. Historically, the river was of great importance to the native Elwha tribe due to the fact salmon were an important part of their lifestyle and the river was an essential part of their spiritual heritage (Gowan et al., 2006).
Water in the pond will be released slowly back to the river after the flood flow has
