Hades, one of the more well-known and powerful Greek gods, ruler of the underworld, is a relative of many other prominent gods. Hades and his pet Cerberus, are often portrayed together throughout Greek mythology. While the Greeks refer to him as Hades, his parallel in Roman culture is named Pluto. They share many similarities but while this may be each culture has a slightly different interpretation of him. Pluto is the god of the Roman underworld. In addition to this he is the ruler of riches and minerals; the same as Hades. Neither of the two could have kids (Atsma). They both have a helmet that renders the wearer invisible (Atsma). They share many family similarities as well. All of Pluto’s brothers represent the same as Hades' brothers. Hades is the son of Cronus and Rhea. He has three sisters: Demeter, the goddess of the harvest, Hestia, the goddess of the hearth and domestic life, and Hera, goddess of marriage and family. He also had two brothers: Poseidon, god of the sea, and Zeus, god of the sky. Hades is the oldest of his siblings, and he was the last regurgitated by his father. All three of the brothers overthrew their father Cronus to become rulers. He also has many powers that are different from other gods. …show more content…

This helmet is similar to the helmet that Pluto, Hades' Roman counterpart had.(Atsma) He also had control over darkness. This meant whenever he wanted he could change his surroundings from light to dark. He also had the ability to drive people insane with merely his presence. This showed he inspired fear in many of the people he encountered. In addition to these powers, he also had control over the underworld. The underworld is where people go after death. He has control of who enters the underworld and who leaves it. He is assisted in this by his dog Cerberus. Cerberus is one of the many animals and symbols associated with Hades
