The film “Still Alice” is about Alice Howland who was diagnosed with alzheimer's disease. It is a rare disease as her age to happen. It all started when she jogged and then she started to forget where she was and her sight becomes blurry all of sudden. Everyday, it gets worse and her memory started to fade. She tend to forget basic things like cooking, remembering names, spelling simple words and going to the bathroom. This has made her having anxiety and couldn't sleep well at all. Slowly, her mental condition has made her mentally isolated because she thought that she could be a burden to everyone else. One example from “Still Alice” is the scene when Alice Howland quoted “I am not suffering. I am struggling, struggling to be a part of things, to stay connected to who I once was. So live in the moment I tell myself. It’s really all I can do. Live in the moment.” knowing that her disease becomes worse everyday, Alice speaks about how she would chose to live her life. She may be struggling, but she is mindful to enjoy the moments she has. Another example that proves that isolation isn't really bad as it seems to be is when Alice says “ When I was, um, a little girl, I was in second grade, my teacher told me that butterflies don’t live a very long time, that they live like a month or something and I was so upset so I went home and told my mother and she was like ‘yeah, but you know, they have a nice life. They have a really beautiful life.” Alice has uses a story about her childhood memory to contrast her current situation. Her life may be short, but, like the butterfly, it can be a very nice one.
