To be alone can be comforting and helpful in recharging a person’s energy levels, but to be lonely takes on an entirely different meaning. Loneliness is accompanied by isolation, melancholy, and a deep desire for human interactions. No person desires to feel lonely and instead craves for intimacy and companionship with the occasional wish to be left alone for a few hours, but never for too long. In Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, Chris McCandless claimed that he always wanted to be alone and did not want to make deep, meaningful relationships with the people he encountered on his journey.
