Alone With Everybody Analyzation Every human being can say they have felt alone at one point in their lives. Loneliness is a feeling we can all relate to, and although feeling alone is common it is almost never spoken of. Everyone feels alone yet it is typically portrayed as something each person is battling on their own and is considered a taboo in society and amongst friends and family. Everyone prefers to talk about love, passion and happiness while ignoring the very real feelings that everyone can relate to. Being alone is usually put in the context of being physically secluded from others. So when author Charles Bukowski titles his poem “Alone With Everybody”. His use of this oxymoron is critical as it paves the way for the meaningful uses of rhetorical devices such as enjambment, epiphora, and synecdoche. These literary devices help convey his message about the hardship that is love. Bukowski’s title can not prepare you enough for the raw and brutal analyzation of being a human in society. He does a fantastic job of expelling the emotional aspects to humans in order to really view them as only flesh and bones. This is known as synecdoche. Through these lines the author faces the irrefutable truth that we are all headed the same way. Even though we love to distract ourselves with poems about love, happiness and fulfillment we will all eventually be grouped together with the useless and crazy. After a while, if you’re not dead you’ll be too beat up by life to be considered alive.
