The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle, is a fictional book with ghosts and goblins and people and their encounters with unusual things. In The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle, there are two stories and two characters who are involved in superstitious things, a fictional book that takes in the place in a place in many legends and ghost stories, and has an author that wrote about the place he loved to explore as a child. First, in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle, there are two stories in the book. First is the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The main character and protagonist in this part of the book, is Ichabod, the schoolmaster of Sleepy Hollow. Ichabod was stern and to the letter schoolmaster, and a very pompous and selfish person. Ichabod, was a very superstitious man who had some interaction with witches and also believed in ghosts, goblins and other things that haunted the forest and Sleepy Hollow. The main character in the second part of the book is Rip Van Winkle. Rip is a very lazy man who would be perfectly fine to stay to himself and just live off what he can get without working. Unfortunately for him his wife, Dame Van Winkle is a lady who wants to get things done and will not allow her husband Rip, to just sit around and do nothing. …show more content…

The town of Sleepy Hollow is a town in which like most towns in the 18th century, the men did all the work and the women stayed in the house and cooked and cleaned the house. Ichabod is a schoolmaster and makes his own money even though this is very little and the women of the town provide food for him.
