Life in Georgian and Victorian England England is very different than what it is now. The living conditions were horrible, there were prostitutes everywhere and disease was very bad. The most common diseases were cholera, which was caused by human waste in the drinking water. Symptoms were nausea, dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea, overwhelming thirst, and cramps. Death often followed within 24 hours of the first symptom. The second common disease was consumption, which was tuberculosis of the lungs. Symptoms were weakness, fatigue, wasting away, and blood in the lungs. This killed hundreds, and took a long time to kill. For the poor children that went to school, their families lost what money they earned so they could send them to school. Only the boys went to school. Mostly the rich could afford the fees to send their children to school. Some schools gave free places to the poor boys. Poor girls had very little education. Girls were usually taught the basics: French, sewing, drawing, dancing, music, and the use of gloves and several more. Girls in the richer families were usually taught by a governess, sometimes wealthy girls may have attended boarding schools as well. It was the same way in the Georgian Era. The music, arts, and culture didn’t change much from the Georgian to Victorian Era. They had a lot of music, plays, and theatrical performances. During both era’s they had blood sports which was a form of entertainment. Blood sports consisted of chicken fights and tying stake to an animal and sending dogs after them.
