Shopping is one thing many people love to do. Not a lot of people love drinking water or eating vegetables. An imbalance between want and need can lead one to spend time and money on things that are not essential. A need is something necessary to live and function. A want is something that can improve your quality of life. A need includes food, water, clothing, shelter, and medical care, while wants include everything else. Many people use up their money to buy things they don’t need or spend time on things they don’t need. People tend to want more than they need because their wants satisfy them and make them feel happier. The imbalance that follows can result in tragedy, disaster, and greed. With his money, he bought a nice house because he knew Daisy would like it. He also cut off all his parties which he was famous for, and fired all his servants to spend more time with Daisy. However, this ended in tragedy. Daisy accidentally hits Myrtle while driving, and George Wilson becomes furious and kills Gatsby. Gatsby’s desire for Daisy caused his death. “The touch of a cluster of leaves revolved slowly, tracing, like the leg of a compass, a thin red circle in the water. In the Avarice she was driven by her wants. Gatsby and Madame Loisel are both the same. This shows that greed is a very strong power and you have to be careful. Make sure you think about what you need before you want. Shopping is fun, but vegetables are not. The imbalance between a want and a need leads one to spend money and time on things that are not essential. Each piece of literature shows that the wants that people want overpower their needs. Gatsby spent money on parties and his house to get Daisy. Madame Loisel spent a lot of time and money on a necklace that was only about $500. The girl in Avarice wanted to be rich, so she was greedy. All of these characters spent their life working for something they wanted in life, when they should’ve been working for their needs in life. People want to satisfy them and make them feel happier, but when they don’t focus on their needs it might cause tragedy, disaster, or
