Similarities and Differences of Lutheranism and Catholicism Between Lutheranism and Catholicism lies differences between Lutherans and Catholics in relation to communion. Although, few of the differences are just in vocabulary. Every individual church creates its own version and type of culture with their own terminology and vocabulary. Such as, for Lutherans, communion is preferred to be known as “The Lord’s Supper” and at the same time Catholics refer to it as “Eucharist” or “Mass”. Differences in practice and belief endure. Both Roman Catholics and Lutherans take leftovers from communion to those who are in need in the community, Catholics continue the practice of serving leftover bread from communion in the tabernacle; a place of devotion and prayer. Consubstantiation is the exact belief of Christ continuing in the wine and bread becoming vehicles to communicate to the believers during and after the commemoration of the Lord’s Supper. That Jesus Christ is to be obtained within the Communion materials. Therefore, all contrary doctrines are to be rejected. Although, Lutherans do not believe in the historical sense of the word consubstantiation, but renounce that stance. The true belief of Lutherans is that Christ’s true body, the same body that had been created inside Mary until birth, crucified for our sins on the cross, touched by the apostles, and continued into Heavens gates.
