Throughout the history of the United States, there have been countless public figures that had an enormous effect on today’s society. However, there are only three I felt are important to me. They are, Martin Luther King Jr, a significant civil rights activist. Franklin D. Roosevelt, creator of the New Deal policy and President of the United States during the first half of World War two. Roosevelt are three public figures that are important to me. There have been countless amounts of people who have affected our society but those three are on top of my list. Martin Luther King Jr is a civil rights activist in the 1960’s. Cesar Chavez is a civil rights activist who is also an American labor leader, and Franklin D. Roosevelt is the 32nd president of the united states who was president during the Great depression and the first half of World War two. Without them, the United States would not be like it is now.

He is an important figure to me because he helped set up a society where people of color have the same rights and opportunities as white Americans.In 1963, King gave his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech where he emphasized the necessity for change and the potential for hope in American society. In his speech, King creates an emotional appeal to his audience, saying “I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where theywill not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character” which would make his speech more powerful than what it already was.
