Shrek is a bad-tempered, green, and ugly ogre who lives happily in his own swamp. Until the day that the great Lord farquaad banished all sorts of fairy tale creatures to invade and live in his swamp. When Shrek wants his peaceful home back to himself, he and his sidekick, Donkey, make their way to the castle to speak to Lord farquaad about getting his swamp back. Lord Farquaad refuses to remove the creatures unless Shrek and Donkey do him a favor. The favor is that they rescue Princess Fiona from a castle guarded by a dragon and bring her back to the Lord.
When different political views and spiritual beliefs are put together, the consequences behind that mixture are often dire and it ultimately results to violence. He emphasizes the importance of learning the past as well as the most up-to-date events of these particular religions. Society’s values were challenged by new viewpoints of traditionalism as the old ways faded. It was easy for an individual to be absorbed into these new viewpoints and to question their beliefs. Again, this trial took a huge toll on people and many widespread changes arose in culture and throughout American society. Individuals began to reject religion and accepted these new viewpoints of modernism. This process of traditional views being rejected is still happening today, this has been evolving over a long period of time, starting in the 20’s.

Socrates states this due to the increasing number of citizens who lived their lives without questioning the world around them. ‘The Matrix’ and Plato’s allegory explore how when the world is properly examined the outcome is a new understanding and perception of life.
One of the most important functions of Terminator 2 and Blade Runner within their Science Fiction subgenre is their portrayal of ‘The Other’ or the nonhuman. In this particular case, we are talking about the Terminators and the Replicants and how they are presented in the films. The Terminators are classified as cyborgs in Terminator 2, whereas Replicants are androids which are based on Phillip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. The terms android and cyborg are completely relative to how the films present them and have a debated definition within the sci-fi community. However, the Terminators are machines that are made in the likeness of human beings.
Like most things that are society based, religion has evolved alongside our own culture. America is a melting pot of different ethnic backgrounds and cultures making it a perfect place for religion to adapt and flourish. For this analysis, I am drawing from “Civil Religion in America” by Robert N. Bellah (1967) on his ideas of American civil religion. In the text Bellah (1967) argues that civil religion is an important dimension that needs to be recognized in sociology. While Bellah focuses specifically on the United States of America, he still gives a valuable perspective on civil religion and how it plays a part in religion as a whole.
The Enlightenment Period was the reformation of society, politics, and the economy. The Enlightenment Period was occurring throughout Europe during the 18th century. Traditional views were challenged by science and reasoning. Philosophers who had a great impact during the Enlightenment period included: John Locke, Voltaire and Montesquieu, Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Adam Smith. John Locke proposed that everyone was born free and had certain unalienable rights.
In a society where controversy is prevalent and the future unknown, the genre of science fiction (SF) offers audiences an incredible chance to explore boundaries and ideas beyond this world. Science Fiction is, as author Christopher McKitterick stated, a magnificent genre of the human species encountering change. Regardless of whether that change encompasses scientific discoveries, technological innovations, natural events or societal shifts, SF greatly concerns itself with ideas and philosophy (McKitterick 2015). It explores the “what ifs?” and where we, as the human species, are headed.
The human mind’s ability and innate desire to justify and explain the world and its phenomena has led to some of the most significant and world-altering discoveries and inventions, illustrated throughout the renaissance, enlightenment, scientific revolution, and industrial revolution. Logical pursuits comprise a significant capstone of human nature and progress. However, according to Rudolf Otto in The Idea of the Holy, these tendencies have created different dimensions of religion; the rational and non-rational, with the latter often times overlooked. The most significant difference between the rational and non-rational aspects of religion deal with their respective emphasis on reason and feeling. Rudolph Otto prioritizes the non-rational as offering a truer understanding of religion because he claims the core of all religious life revolves around experiences and feeling, not simply rational thought.

Believe it or not, religion, which is “the service and worship of God or the supernatural” (Webster) is far more common than the average Joe notices on the surface. A large amount of people wouldn’t see religious aspects in their everyday life except for those they practice and even then, most are limited to a single day if even that. With the proper lens it is possible to gaze deeper into everyday occurrences and see factors such as subliminal meanings and blatant themes that have religious values to accompanying them. This theme of religion in popular culture can be seen popular aspects of everyday life. Many religious institutions see media within popular culture as an avenue to communicate to the mass their message and/or vision.
When science and technology is taking over the territory once held by religion, ancient traditional orthodox religious beliefs require strong defense against open and modern information, which is a threat to the belief.
