I conducted a search on privacy and security on the internet. I used google search as my search engine and Thomas Edison's EBSCO as my Academic Search Premier database. I performed a comparison of the two, focusing on the authority, accuracy, coverage, objectivity, currency and navigation of the articles. A search engine is not as reliable as a database. My search engine and my database articles both had an author listed. My search engine had a link to the author. There were no credentials, no email address or contact information listed for this author. In fact, the author works for the specific magazine and has no credentials affiliated with security of the internet. My database listed the credentials of my author and is an expert in the field. The information appears to be error free. However, the author uses many references without the proper use of citations or reference page. In my database article there were many citations, references and bibliography. It is unknown if my search engine article went threw any type of verification or check. My database article went threw peer review and is a scholarly work. Coverage and Objectivity is where I saw a biggest difference in the articles. My google search did not go in depth at all. In Fact it gave you very basic facts then encouraged you to purchase a subscription to the magazine or purchase the full report. It's not objective because the argument leads you to buy the full report to know more. The database is based more on full facts. It is very in depth and objective. The articles use many references to support their thesis and research. There is no advertising or encouragements to buy
