‘Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American slave’ and ‘Slave Owners’, two texts written about slavery and injustice. I will be comparing and contrasting these amazing texts. ‘Narrative Life of Frederick Douglass, an American slave’ is a book written by Frederick Douglass and published in the late 1845. ‘Slave Owners’, on the other hand is a text that was written by Ed, Thurston, Thomas, although the publish date is unclear, the date on the letters indicate it was written about 1848 however it was probably written more recently. These two texts are very-well written and accurately depicted. One of the first notable similarities are their speaking style. In the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American slave and Slave Owners, they all spoke in an olden english kind of accent, used the old language writing style and similar harsh words. One of the quotes from Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American slave is: “I have often sung to drown my sorrow, but seldom to express my happiness.” and a quote from Slave …show more content…

One of these differences are, the use of different perspective. Like The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American slave has a perspective of a coloured slave, An example is: “to go home and be whipped to death, or stay in the woods and be starved to death.”(Slave’s View) while Slave Owners has the ruthless, unforgiving slaveholders perspective, An example is: “Sir, I cannot thank you enough to lending me two of your slaves.”(Slaveholder’s View). And finally, the last difference and probably the most notable is that the ‘Slave Owners’ text are a composition of letters being sent from one slaveholder to the other back and forth discussing about their plantations as well-as the work of historical fiction.
