Noah vs The Man Gods using their godly powers to cause natural disasters is common in literature around the world. One of the most well-known of these stories is Noah’s Ark. Another story that closely resembles this is “The Voice, The Flood, and The Turtle”. The story of Noah’s Ark comes from the Bible, Genesis chapters six through nine. The short story “The Voice, The Flood, and The Turtle” has been passed down by Native American’s through song and storytelling. These stories resemble each other closely, but the stories are not exactly the same. Both stories start with a god or God warning a character of an oncoming flood. In the story of Noah’s Ark God is frustrated with mankind and is regretting ever creating them, “I will blot out from the earth the men whom I created men together with breasts, creeping things, and birds of the sky; for I regret that I made them” (“Genesis 6-9” 45). While in the story of “The Voice, The Flood, and The Turtle” a god creates a great flood in order to get rid of four monsters. …show more content…

In Noah’s Ark and “The Voice, The Flood, and The Turtle”: the main characters are told by the supreme beings how they can survive the oncoming flood. Noah is instructed by God to build an Ark out of gopher wood, with compartments, and to cover it inside and out with pitch. God, then explains to Noah how he shall make the ark, “The length of the ark must be three hundred cubits. Make an opening for daylight in the ark, and terminate it within a cubit of the top. Put the entrance to the ark in its side; make it with bottom, second, and third decks” (“Genesis 6-9” 45). However in “The Voice, The Flood, and The Turtle” a god tells the man who can see into the future to plant a hollow reed. Then the reed grew bigger and very fast and rose to touch the sky in no time.
