Wreck it Ralph V.S Odyssey Hero Journey In almost all films and pieces of literature a hero’s journey is portrayed. A hero’s journey is an archetype present in all cultures and time periods. In a hero’s journey there are four main parts; however, there could be more. The four main parts are separation, initiation, discovery, and lastly return.
The Odyssey Many people deem Odysseus to be an archetype hero. But was he really? Sure, he won many wars, but did he show the characteristics that matter? No!

The two main characters, Odysseus and Everett, go on a prolonged journey with many twists and turns in order to be reunited with their wives and family. On the way home, Everett must overcome perils such as the KKK, while Odysseus must deal with monsters such as Scylla. Throughout The Odyssey and ‘O Brother Where Art Thou?’
Odysseus and the Twenty-Year Battle The Odyssey is an epic poem written by Homer. It is a about a classic, mythological hero named Odysseus, that is forced to fight in the ten-year Trojan War. He must leave behind his wife, Penelope, his son, Telemachus, and his kingdom in Ithaca. After fighting in the ten-year battle, the reader learns that there is another ten years of struggle just to return back home.
Even the most intelligent of people can be lead astray by temptation. Eurylochus' willpower is tested as he travels with Odysseus in Homer's epic, The Odyssey. When the crew encounters the beautiful enchantress Circe, Eurylochus is able to sense danger and resisted Circe's charm. On the other hand, when faced with starvation in the presence of Helios' cattle, he ignored Odysseus’ warnings and yielded to provocation. Overall, while Eurylochus is wise, he is mortal and susceptible to deception.
In the “In The Beginning” Moses tells the story of the Fall; the story of Adam and Eve, the Creation; the story of the beginning of time, and the Garden of Eden. “In The Beginning” is a biblical narrative. “The Odyssey” is an epic poem about the journey Odysseus goes through and all the temptations he has. In both “ In The Beginning” and “The Odyssey” the main characters have many temptation, are helped by God(s), and have an antagonist try to let them succeed. “In The Beginning” tells the readers about Eve falling for temptation.
In part one of Homer’s Odyssey, Odysseus uses his epic hero qualities to help him out on his quest to get back home to Ithaca. He’s shows superb intelligence when fighting the cyclopes in “Book 9.” That’s a quality of superhuman intelligence that Odysseus possessed all throughout his entire journey. Another epic hero quality that helped Odysseus was help from Greek gods and goddesses. In part two of Homer’s Odyssey, Athena helped out Odysseus when he got back to his home land.
A hero is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements or noble qualities. In the movie, Odysseus shows that he is a hero by showing off his bravery and courage to defeat several monsters. He showed courage when he faced the Cyclops, when he met Lotus Eaters, and when he went back to Ithaca to see his wife. Odysseus and his men went to the cave to show the Cyclops that they are better than him. The Cyclops got angry when he got back to his cave since Odysseus and his men were eating the Cyclops’ food.

This essay comes from the odyssey written in the 7th century BC by Homer. Before he was lost at sea and missing for 10 years he was a war hero, he is the one who won the trojan war for the greeks with his genius idea of the trojan horse where they made a hollow horse that they stuffed warriors into and they gave it to the trojans as peace gift but after they celebrated and got drunk and fell asleep the warriors came out and opened the gates to troy and they killed all of the trojans and won the war.
Ernest Cline, author of Ready Player One, and Homer, author of The Odyssey, both come from different backgrounds but both share a common storyline within their writings: the pattern of “the hero’s journey”. Both Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One and Homer’s The Odyssey tell the story of two men escaping their homelands to undergo life-threatening adventures. However, the characters, Wade Watts and Odysseus, differ personally. Although Odysseus from The Odyssey, Homer’s epic, and Wade Watts from Ready Player One, Ernest Cline’s dystopian novel, both leave their childhood homes to undergo life-threatening quests, Odysseus shows little personal growth throughout the story, remaining as an arrogant, self-centered man, while Wade Watts progressively develops as a character, as he transforms from “a painfully shy, awkward kid” to the winner of James Halliday’s sought after Easter Egg.
Homer’s The Odyssey, translated by Robert Fitzgerald, contains a man named Odysseus who can relate to today’s soldiers of the military by the power of love. Odysseus fights his way back home seeing he loves his wife monumentally, just as military wives and husbands love their spouse or child. In The Odyssey, Odysseus is king and a loving husband to his wife Penelope.
A hero is someone who is revered for his or her exceptional achievements and bravery. Anyone who puts themselves before others not for recognition or an award, but because it is the right thing to do, is a true hero. In "The Odyssey," written by Homer is an epic poem about a man named Odysseus and his crewmates competing against the power of the gods to return to their homeland, Ithaca. Throughout his journey, he loses almost all of his men, but Odysseus finally arrives home, concluding his prolonged twenty-year voyage. Odysseus must battle the suitors that have taken his wife Penelope, and may soon kill his son Telemachus.
Heroes are, “People who take risks despite fear”(Source 2). In The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus faces many challenges that make him a hero. He battles monsters, goddesses, and enchantresses. Odysseus is a hero in the way that he uses his brain to think about and approach dilemmas. When he and his men are on the Cyclops’ island, Odysseus tells the cyclops that his name was Nobody.
The concept of hero has been interpreted in many ways throughout the ages. Hero have gone from knights slaying dragons and rescuing the princess, to heroes who save the world with their supernatural-like powers, to a modern day hero who is someone who has noble qualities and is regarded as a role model. In the epic, The Odyssey, by Robert Fagles, the heroic Odysseus is a well known in Greek mythology. However, although Odysseus is the most respected, honorable hero of Greek mythology he is not a modern hero. A modern day hero is someone who puts their life on the line to save the lives of other innocent people.
Achilles’ Heel A hero is a person who is admired for their bravery, achievements, and unique qualities. For instance, in greek mythology, a warrior named Achilles played the role of being one of the greatest heros in the Trojan War. Achilles was one of the superior warriors during this time because he helped lead the Greeks to victory with his devotion and loyalty. He was courageous and supposedly invincible, but he had one weakness.
