In the Odyssey by Homer and the movie, Apollo 13, Odysseus and James (Jim) Lovell face difficulties that they need to overcome and have many accomplishments they need to celebrate. Odysseus and Jim face challenges they overcome. One of Odysseus’s great challenges is escaping trouble. He finds ways to always escape them but finds it hard sometimes so he must be creative.
In book 12 of The Odyssey, Odysseus and his remaining men encountered many problems that drastically changed the process of returning home. After the proper burial of Eplenor, Circe gives Odysseus advice to handle the dangers on the way home. Odysseus led his men to the island of Thrinacia, which contains the cattle of the sun. In this episode, Odysseus’s loyalty, bravery, compassion, and faith to return home with his men is shown, despite the many obstacles faced along the way. Odysseus faced many challenges in this episode that hardened and delayed his homecoming.
Sundiata and The Odyssey are two out of the many great great orally told tales in all of mankind history. In writing, comparing your work to another similar text is extremely important for making your paper understandable to any audience. In this case, I will be comparing the two similar texts, The Odyssey and Sundiata: An Epic of Old Mali. Both of these two tables show the characters, Sundiata and Odysseus, long quests of pursuing and accomplishing a certain objective. To reach their goal, both characters encounter obstacles and enemies who want to stop them on their prolonged journey.
Ghost figures in literature are usually metaphors for the past. In some cases their presence is not meant to haunt or terrify, but rather remind living characters of certain events or feelings, thus creating a link between the living and the dead. This link can provide insight for the living character. In both Homer’s, Odyssey and Vergil’s, Aeneid, the main characters are confronted by the ghost of people from their past. It is in these appearances were both, Odysseus and Aeneas, hear from their deceased loved ones and their contrasting views toward death.
Brilliant stories require an even more brilliant hero, they could be relatable and humorous, or maybe even serious and jaded. The great adventures that display these impressive characters also cover their strengths and weaknesses and overall likeability. The classic Epic The Odyssey, written by Homer in the 8th century BC and translated by Robert Fagles, and the space-movie The Martian, written by Andy Weir in 2011 and Directed by Ridley Scott, are both excellent examples of tales with impressive protagonists. Both epic stories exhibit a protagonist persevering through an abyss and being resourceful, but Mark Watney is far more likable then Odysseus, because he is always humorous.
I choose Apollo his theme ’s are some what the same as zeus, but he has more drama. Apollo is the most beautiful god, god of light, the “most greek” god of all and plays music on his beautiful golden lyre. Apollo had many friends in his life and one theme is because of one of them. Apollo’s theme is one of the most important themes in the entire book, and it show something most important in friendship.
Along the journey of Marty in Back to the Future, and Odysseus in The Odyssey, there is a striking number of characteristics that set their hero’s journeys far apart from one another. Both heroes succeed in surpassing their challenges but the differences in everything else is overwhelming. The two stories completely contrast one another from the Unusual birth, to crossing the threshold all the way to reconciliation with a father figure. The unusual birth explains what exactly makes the hero unique upon birth. Odysseus and Marty are unique in their own ways and are by no means similar.

Among his many adventures during this quest, Odysseus had to escape imprisonment by Calypso on the island of Ogygia. Calypso Lets no one leave her island once you've gotten on it.

“O Brother Where Art Thou?” is a comedy, adventure film produced in 2000. Many of the scenes in this film are based off the Odyssey, which is an epic poem by Homer. It is based on a true hero’s journey back home. There are many correlations and yet differences between the Odyssey and the film. Although the overall plot of “O Brother Where Art Thou?” is vaguely similar to the Odyssey, there are certain “episodes” that closely mirror the film’s classical influence.
The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood is the retelling of the odyssey from the perspective of penelope. The story goes around with penelope and the maids, who were hanged. This book is written in first person of the view of Odysseus’s wife. The book transforms Penelope into a believable character by giving the reader a glimpse into her head and thoughts through a first person view. The Odyssey told her story, while the Penelopiad is her story.
The story Odyssey and O Brother, Where Art Thou have a lot of connections to our life just like how Odysseus was on a journey to get home and Everett was on a journey to get the treasure, we all have roadblocks and fears we have to pass. In the text, The Odyssey was written by Homer and the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou Directed by Joel and Ethan Coen both authors deal with the main idea loyalty. Both stories have loyalty as the theme because in the Odyssey Odysseus wife was loyal to him for 20 years while he was gone.
Imagine being apart from your family for over ten years, fighting for your life in a war, and in the many battles and problems you will face on your way home from war. Would you be able to fight a cyclops, pass a dangerous whirlpool and have to face the fact that your crew betrayed you? In the novel The Odyssey written by Homer, Odysseus must do all of these things and more. He has been away from his wife, son and many other family members for over ten years now, fighting for his life on his journey home after fighting in the Trojan war.
