Comparing Penelope By Odysseus And The Ramayana

401 Words2 Pages
When it came to Penelope, Odysseus made it clear he had wanted to get back home to her, and just how much he adored her. This caught me by surprise, even in his journey to the underworld he searches for her. In the Ramayana they focus on the faithfulness of the missing spouse, while here it seems the actual goal indeed was reconnecting the two lovers. Odysseus, no matter how unfaithful he was still wouldn’t rest until he was with his wife again. When the couple finally reunites Penelope, like Rama, is skeptical, but for different reasons. She is so unsure and shocked that after all this time her husband actually came back to her, she couldn’t believe the man standing before her was indeed her husband.
