The epic told written by Homer about a hero named Odysseus and his crew and their journey back to their homeland of Ithaca is closely related to the film, “O Brother Where Art ‘Thou”, by the Coen Brothers. But when looked at from a different perspective it is clear that the differences outweigh the similarities. In the movie there are many ways that each character can be perceived. For example, the sheriff that is looking hunting Ulysses and his crew can be seen as the Devil or Poseidon. There is evidence that he is the devil because during the movie he burns two barns and the devil and fire are very closely related.
Even though they had the same goal the people who helped them, the children they wanted to see, and the challenges they faced once they got there were really different. Both Odysseus and Everett attempted to get back home to their wife with crews that were very unlike,but had some similarities to each other. Odysseus had many men 600 to be exact and they knew to an extent what they were getting into. Each one of Odysseus’s men in The Odyssey choose to go or were forced to go to the Trojan War, but they knew the end goal of beating the Trojans.
Perseus lives to have a family and become immortalized. Spider-Man likes to live in the moment. Odysseus never wanted to go to war and leave his family. Peter Parker did not ask to be bit by the spider and become Spider-Man. “Odysseus is also known for being wise and clever he is loved and respected by many who know him when acting on his concerns for others he uses his courage and brain power before fighting”().
The two stories, Drumbeats and Bullets and The Drummer Boy of Shiloh have many comparisons and contrasts. One story is mostly fact based, while the other is more of a story. Both stories have facts about the life in war as a drummer boy. Johnny Clem (from Drumbeats and Bullets) and Joby (from The Drummer boy of Shiloh) can relate in many different ways.they also have factors that make them very different.

In The Odyssey, Homer emphasizes the significance that similarities between fathers and sons can have: “Never, anywhere, have I seen so great a likeness in man or woman-but it is truly strange! This boy must be the son of Odysseus, Telémachus, the child he left at home that year the Akhaian host made war on Troy” (Homer 57). This talks about the similarity between Odysseus and Telémachus. Offspring often model their parents in looks and character traits. Although Odysseus goes through extremely dangerous and taxing situations, he is often thinking of his family.
A similarity we can see in both stories is that both Odysseus and Don Quixote are fighting against monsters for the people they love: Odysseus is fighting against monsters for his home, his wife and son. He stayed many years traveling and defeating mythological creatures just with one objective: return home, to his so loved Penelope and his beloved son. Don Quixote, as Odysseus, is fighting against monsters and (sometimes) defeating them to prove to Dulcinea,, his most loved woman, that he is worthy of her, he deserves her love, and he will do everything for her to see it. An example of his effort for love is when Don Quixote almost kill the Biscayan, and the ladies that were watching the fight agree to tell Dulcinea Del Toboso of his victory, even not knowing who she is (English 1A book page 253). First, Odysseus and Everett share an abundance of epic hero qualities. Everett shows his courage when he disguised as KKK to free Tommy. This parallels to when Odysseys and his crew hide under the sheep and defeats the mighty Polyphemus. Everett is a cunning, quick-tongued, sharp leader, which is the same as Odysseus. Also, Pete and Delmar appear to be as dumb as the crew written in the Odyssey.

Odysseus is the heroic character from The Odyssey by Homer, and Aeneas is the heroic character from The Aeneid by Virgil. Both men had fought on opposite sides of the Trojan War, a war fought at Troy. Odysseus fought for Greece, while Aeneas fought for Rome. Along with these basic things, the two heroes do have similarities, as well as differences. Both Odysseus and Aeneas are on a journey to get to home.

The Odyssey and Ulysses were meant to be the same character written by two different individuals. Both individuals encountered obstacles at some point in their lives. Odysseus and Ulysses were both considered a hero in today’s society along with their similar characteristics. The heroic qualities and themes presented in both pieces of the literature work emphasized the similarity between the two characters along with their differences.
