In the early 1800s, a great poet was born: Edgar Allan Poe. What was so unique about Poe? He was special because he was able to give poetry different subjects and focuses. Instead of sticking to the ‘happy’ or ‘sad’ aspect of poetry, Poe put his own twist to it and made it dark. He did not do this in the typical way a reader would expect. Poe portrayed the darkness through his characters and even made some of his poetry a look into his personal life. Comparison of many of Poe’s poems can help to understand his life.
