The Golden One Disney is known for its kid friendly and modern-day films, but do people really know the true inspiration behind Disney’s movie Tangled? “Rapunzel” is a short story written by the Brothers Grimm that gave life to the movie Tangled. Credit was never fully given to the original work that created the idea of Tangled. Even though both stories have many similarities, they also have details that set them apart. When viewing the works of both the Disney picture and the short story, one can see the similarities and differences in the settings of the two, characters in each and the plots.
To begin, readers can identify that the setting of both storylines are primarily in a tower in the woods. In each of the stories, the enchantress takes Rapunzel to the tower and locks her away from the world. The beginning of the stories differs in the opening setting. In Brother Grimm’s version, the second setting is in the desert where Rapunzel is from. In Tangled, there are many settings present throughout the film such as: the tower, the kingdom, the Duckling restraint and the castle.

Both Brother’s Grimm version and Disney’s version contain a main character by the name of Rapunzel. This character is raised by an enchantress that uses Rapunzel for her benefit. Where the stories begin to differ is when the rescuer of Rapunzel comes into play. In Disney’s version, Princess Rapunzel is rescued by a common thief named Flynn Rider. Instead of the rescuer being a prince in this story, he is just an average guy from town. On the contrary, the lady being saved in Brother’s Grimm story is just an average girl by the name of Rapunzel who is saved by a prince from a nearby
