The relationship between Romeo and Juliet and their immense love for each other in the play Romeo & Juliet by William Shakepeare has irreparable and lasting consequences that forever change the Montague and Capulet families. Moreover, Juliet is a part of the Capulet family and can be described as passionate, determined, and intelligent. On the other hand, Romeo is a part of the Montague family and can be described as impulsive, a hopeless romantic, and peaceful. Following, they first met at the Capulets Annual Ball. In this movie, Tony and Maria are the parallels of Romeo and Juliet with many of the aspects of their love stories and the impact they have being similar, but slightly different. To start, Romeo and Juliet was set in Verona in the 1500’s and West Side Story was set in the 1950’s. Additionally, the hate between two families is still a huge aspect in each story. For Romeo and Juliet, they have their families the Montagues and Capulets, but for West Side Story there are the gangs, the Jets and Sharks. These two families share a huge hatred for each other, so for the couples to be in a relationship is near impossible because of this hatred. Nonetheless, they fall in love anyway. Moreover, both relationships start with a glance from across the room at a dance and love at first sight, but Romeo and Juliet met at the Capulets Annual Ball and Tony and Maria met at a dance. Like Romeo and Juliet, it is evident how deeply Tony and Maria fall in love and how consumed they become. Thus, also similar to Romeo and Juliet, both of the couples caused even more rifts between the two families and, in the end, got people killed.
