Comparing Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, And Shutter Island

Martine Scorsese is a prominent American movie director that began his career in the 1960s. Scorsese grew up in Little Italy in New York and tends to depict his childhood in his movie. More often than not, his movies involve violence. He was quoted to say that he would not need to go see a therapist simply because they would be able to watch his films and analyze him based off of that. His movies typically involve an antagonist that is hard for the viewer to connect with and understand their motives. The three movies that I chose to watch to compare and contrast are Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, and Shutter Island. With this said, the three movies have completely different plots. Goodfellas is a violent gangster movie that follows the life of Henry Hill and his quest to become part and be accepted by the mafia. Comparingly so, Taxi Driver is also completely and unapologetically violent and involves gangsters but it does not revolve around gangsters, but instead Travis who is completely deranged from his insomnia. Much like Taxi Driver in a way but completely different from Goodfellas is Shutter Island. Shutter Island does not involve any violence and it is no way a gangster movie. Instead, it is a thriller. Both Taxi Driver and Shutter Island have a plot twist and the end of the movie. In Taxi Driver, we watched as Travis developed more and more social problems as the movie goes on.
