Imagine a world where there is no indication of what is right and what is wrong. The battle between good and evil is one prominent theme in the film Star Wars; Revenge of the Sith, written and directed by George Lucas. The movie demonstrates the hopefulness and light of the force as well as its darkness and corruption. Each character represents either the light or dark side of the force and how simple it is to become influenced by the opposite. In the film Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, the manipulation of various symbols, colors, lighting, and musical elements is used to portray the overall theme of the struggle between light and dark. While Padme served in the Senate, she wore a headpiece that resembled the symbol for the Rebel Alliance. This shows that Padme is everything that the Rebel Alliance will stand for. The headpiece symbolizes hope for the Jedi Order and rebellion against the Empire. During the beginning of the film, when Anakin has captured Count Dooku and is preparing to kill him, he is wielding two lightsabers. One of which is blue and the other red. This symbolizes Anakin’s internal conflict. The blue lightsaber represents his hope and belief in the Jedi Order and the light side of the force. The red lightsaber represents his frustration and anger towards the Jedi and his desire for violence. In the final shots of the film, when Anakin is being transformed into Darth Vader, there is a symbol below him on the floor. Surrounding him is the Imperial seal, a direct tie to the Empire and the dark side of the force. The seal on the floor represents Anakin's ultimate demise and fall to the Sith. During the scenes where Anakin is with Padme and they are discussing their romance and their unborn child, the music is happier and more melodic. These scenes mainly contain their love theme, “Across the Stars”. During the final scene when Anakin and Obi-Wan are fighting, the music is quick and more sorrowful. The contrast between the gentle and somber music reveals the two sides of Anakin's life: the side that is dedicated to being a Jedi and the side that is being seduced by the dark side of the force. When Anakin is with Padme, he is content and smitten with her, compared to when he is away from her and he is angry and frustrated with the Jedi Order and the council. At the end of the film, when Luke is taken to his aunt and uncle’s home, his theme song “A New Hope” begins to play. The melody is more cheerful and hopeful compared to the quickness of the action scenes. The music indicates hope for the galaxy and the start of Luke’s journey into the light side of the force and becoming a Jedi. The slower music pace helps to represent the light side of the force, and the faster music pace helps to represent the dark side of the force. The choice in music develops the theme of good vs.
