Compare and contrast the constitution
The Constitutional Convention of 1787 was called to revise the ailing Articles of Confederation. The Constitution has similarities and differences to the Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation was made of a one body Government, that only allowed states to have one vote to select a representative. The Congress can make laws but cannot enforce them, and congress were not allowed to tax the people. Even though they wrote the Articles of Confederation to establish a national government after the United States declared Independence from Great Britain, the document still had some flaws.
The Articles of Confederation lasted 8 years until each of the thirteen states became unhappy with the laws. The Articles of Confederation wasn’t working out because the states had more power than the central and national government. The Articles of Confederation had no power to create a national army or navy, and the Article had no way to solve quarrels among the states. The Articles of Confederation had many weaknesses, and the states took it for granted. Each state retained its sovereignty, freedom, and independence; and the feeling of a stronger government grew slowly in the 1780s. Even though the Articles of Confederation had a lot of flaws, it had some positive parts.

The flaws of the constitution is that it was extremely difficult to pass new amendments, and left women and African Americans out of the document. The Constitution also allowed slavery to continue.
