Edgar Allen Poe’s writings are very dark and dispirited. A lot of his writings contain death and depression. Two of his writings that exhibit both of those topics are The Fall of the House of Usher and The Raven. In The Fall of the House of Usher, the narrator went to go visit an old friend named Roderick Usher. Roderick lived with his sickly sister in a dark, scary house. Throughout the story, the narrator tries to make Roderick feel better and eventually the sister appears to be dead. The narrator helps Roderick bury her and nail the coffin down. While he was reading a story to Roderick, the supposedly dead sister appeared in the room. She collapsed on Roderick and died. He was in a great state of shock and died too. The narrator is terrified
