This is true for young Gary Soto. Throughout this narrative, Soto uses many rhetorical devices to convey emotion to the audience. In “A Summers Life”, Soto shifts from a feeling of innocence and youth to one of gut wrenching sin by using powerful imagery, Biblical allusions, and purposeful symbolism to prove that as a child, he succumbed easily to temptation.

In the book The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins had to make many decisions, which could be considered to be heroic, but he isn’t necessarily considered to be a hero because of his physical strength. What does it mean to be a hero? In the book Beowulf, many considered Beowulf to be a hero because of his strong, and prideful personality, and his large, and mighty size. Bilbo on the other hand was quiet and generous, and he was also only three feet tall, which made people question his bravery, and strength.
The white of the bones represents purity, and their slumber indicates their eventual peaceful rest. The judeo-Christian story is very well known creation story. The Christian religion is very familiar to this story. The other story is called Iroquois creation this is a Native American story of how the Earth came to a beginning. There is many similarities and differences in this story. One of the differences is that in the Christian story the Earth was made by God.
It is noteworthy that this story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden is the foundation of the religion with the largest number of followers worldwide. Why does it continue to resonate with so many people even today? The reason is that this utopia contains archetypes that reflect the collective unconscious that is found across all cultures. This is the result of universal themes in this story about humanity’s needs and desires that we still see occurring in our society today. The story of Genesis contains three archetypal characteristics that illustrate these patterns that still demonstrate humanity’s needs.
In his short story “The Pie,” Gary Soto recreates the experience of his guilty six year-old self through the use of cachet word choice and contrasting subtle and stark imagery. Soto uses articulate diction to gracefully illustrate the feeling of guilt and the pleasure derived from it that he encounters after the stealing of the apple pie. He explains that he felt an almost inhuman, burning desire for the pie when “stood before a race of [them]” and “nearly wept trying to choose” one. The “juice of guilt [that] wett[ed] his underarms” is, in a discrete manner, warning him of the repercussions that will arise as a consequence of his evil deed, but he does not heed to it and soon winds up “work[ing] [his] cleanest finger into the pie.”
In this article, the tree symbolizes truth. It is ironic that Washington cut down the tree when he was all about being truthful.
Near the end of the novel she observes, “In the years she had been tying scraps to the branches, the tree had died and the fruit turned bitter. It portrays the author’s perspective that lives wither and lose life due to such violence.
The apple is seen as a double edged sword that symbolizes two things. The apple symbolizes destruction and growth. The apple is the cause of many events in Gregor’s life which eventually all lead to his total annihilation. Though the apple is also as symbol of destruction it is also seen as a symbol of growth.
