The two greatest readings that had interested me this fall semester are “The Gilded Six Bits” by Zora Neale Hurston and “Ain’t I a Woman” by Sojourner Truth. Both stories had open my eyes to acknowledge the message that they want my generation to understand their accomplishment for African Americans to have equality, freedom, and rights. “The Gilded Six Bits” had interests me in this fall semester because this story had taught me about the power of money, and that appearance are not always true. “Ain’t I a Woman” had an impact on me this semester since the speech had given me the understanding that African Americans are citizens and that we have feelings too. “The Gilded Six Bits” and “Ain’t I a Woman” both had taught me a lesson that money can be powerful, and that African Americans are citizen who has feelings too. …show more content…

I was interests in this story because it had taught me two lessons that money can be powerful, and appearances are not always seeming to be true. Money symbolizes the power of greed. Money can be powerful when you crave for it whether it can be good or bad. Money shows that it can be good to buy things, or it can be bad to get something in return for money. In the story it shows us that money was kind of good for Missie Mae and Joe. Money allow them to share their love for each other even though they were poor. However, the story had also described that money can destroyed a happily marriage by the greed for money. As well as in the story It had also demonstrated that appearances are not true. Otis Slemmons in the story shows us that appears can come out to be true once you get to know who they really are. This story had taught me to learn to see truth with your own eyes, and never believe anything someone else tells
