The issues in Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes and Hope Was Here are similar because they both had issues with people dying or trying to die, people were getting beaten up because they were trying to help, and they both had problems with babies.
In Hope Was Here, G.T. had leukemia and then went into remission for about two years and then he passed away, but that was after he and Addie got married, they adopted Hope, and Hope thought of him as her real dad. Braverman got beat up by a group of Milestone supporters just because he was part of the “Students for Stoop” that supported G.T.’s campaign. Lou Ellen is a waitress at “Welcome Stairways”, where Hope works and she has a baby named Anastasia. She is not drinking from her baby bottle and is maturing …show more content…

In Hope Was Here, Hope is always moving so she has to make new friends and she doesn’t think that she will become friends with Braverman but they end up dating. Hope is always moving and she lives with her aunt because her mother gave her up so she doesn’t have life all that good. Then she becomes friends with Braverman and G.T. asks Addie to marry him and they officially adopt Hope. Unfortunately G.T. dies of leukemia about two years later. Later, Hope and Braverman go off to college though, so everything turns out alright.
In Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes, Eric and Mark hate each other in the book until they both end up in the hospital, but then Mark goes and talks to Eric and they become friends. A similar thing happened to Sarah Byrnes and Dale because he used to beat up Sarah, but then they became good friends when Eric was swimming and losing weight. Sarah Byrnes hasn’t had the best life ever, being burned by her dad and being beaten up by Dale. In the end, though it works out alright because she gets adopted by Ms. Lemery. Mark Brittain tries to do just about the dumbest thing anybody can do by trying to commit suicide because of something he
