Malala Yousafzai, youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate, once said, “ I speak not for myself but for those without voice… those who have fought for their rights… their right to live in peace, their right to be treated with dignity, their right to equality of opportunity, their right to be educated”. Natives are continuously being treated with inequality and are constantly being discriminated against; Malala Yousafzai is one of the many people who stood up for people like the Natives, people who cannot speak up for themselves. The short story “Hearts and Flowers” by Tomson Highway speaks of an eight-year-old boy who fights to prove that Native people are just as human as white people. Throughout the story, one is able to uncover how people who
What association does reality and perception have when someone speaks their truth? Two texts – “The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allen Poe, “Nothing But the Truth” by Avi – both express a theme of truth and the relationship between reality, perception, and truth by demonstrating how a person’s perspective affects their experience of reality and how each person’s perspective determined if they are a reliable narrator. However, diverse structures are used to explain the character’s actuality. Although both books employ first-person, internal narration, “Nothing But the Truth” includes multiple narrators, which gives the reader a clearer understanding of what is happening. Reality, perception, and truth are all connected because one cannot exist

I am impressed with the variety of literary terms expressed within the short stories that we are considering for publication, and the vast array of genres they represent. “The Tell-Tale Heart” is an exciting horror-fiction story, expressed through characterization and flashback. I enjoyed the Naturalism of “To Build a Fire,” brought to life through setting and imagery. “A Clean, Well-Lighted Place” is a modernist short story that caused me to reflect on the realities of age and loneliness through the use of unique points of view. African-American fiction is represented by “Sonny’s Blues,” expressed through the conflict and resolution of the relationship between two brothers, ending in an epiphany.
This is also shown on page 173 and it states, “ I had my head in, and was about to open the lantern, when my thumb slipped upon the tin fastening, and the old man sprang up in the bed, crying out-“Who’s there?”. This creates suspense because, the reader knows that the narrator has already came into the old man’s room for seven days before this. Although, each one of those nights the man was asleep so the eye was closed, but now he’s and his eye is open and the narrator would only kill him if his vulture eye was open. This then causes the reader to feel anxious and many other emotions that suspense would give you.

Within these categories, there a huge selection of even more categories, including fantasy, horror, and adventure; just to name a few. There are two though, that fall under the fictional and horror categories; The Tell-Tale Heart and The Landlady.
The Tell Tale Heart is narrated anonymously yet extremely in depth, leaving the reader with an ominous perspective. The use of first person creates a mysterious interpretation for the readers as we construe the tale from an individuals point of view, looking into the story. The story builds up upon the narrator’s guilt over intentionally killing an innocent man. A suspicious neighbor cries out for help after hearing a shriek and three policemen investigate the situation. During the climax, the narrator is at the greatest intensity of guilt and craze.
