These films depict the story of Frankenstein from different perspectives. Some films like Frankenstein directed by Kenneth Branagh are more faithful to the original book, while other films like Frankenstein directed by James Whale are significantly different from the original book. Victor explains that it was “a memorable day for me; it decided my future destiny” (Shelley 77). From there he started, he started robbing graves to find body parts to create a monster. He ended up afraid of his creation, and ran away thinking that the monster would eventually go away. One of his family members was killed by the monster, but he kept this a secret from everyone because he did not want anyone to find out about his creation. He then devoted his life to killing the monster and later died in pursuit of the monster. In the 1931 movie by Whale, Victor is named Henry. Unlike the novel, this movie does not give Henry any backstory and just starts with the scene of him grave robbing. This adaptation gave Henry an assistant named Fritz, as well as Professor Waldman. Henry relied on lightning and the natural spectrum of light rather than his science skills to create the monster. Henry is shown to be a mad scientist who has neglected everything in his pursuit of creating life. When the monster comes to life, Henry exclaims "It's alive!"
