Almost everyone knows the name William Shakespeare or at least just Shakespeare. Everyone who knows Shakespeare knows he is a famous poet, playwright, and actor. Some may even say he is the greatest writer in the English language. But what Shakespeare is widely known for is his many plays of love, heartbreak, and betrayal. One of his most recognizable and beloved plays, of love and heartbreak, is Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare left no stage direction with this play, leading it to be interpreted in many ways by filmmakers, play directors, and any audience member. The first two films to be compared are the, first and second films, the 2014 play and the 1996 movie. These two films were modern by having tall buildings in large cities. Also both films showed the two houses having diversity. The two films had great acting. As well as having amazing outfits and costumes. The next two comparisons are the 2014 play and the 1968 drama. The 2014 play and the 1968 drama had very similar priest which seemed to be wearing a Catholic Priest attire. In both they had a mausoleum, where Juliet laid ‘dead’. As well as them both having Juliet die by poison,after seeing Romeo dead. The 1968 drama was a type of movie like the 1996 movie. In both films Romeo and Juliet were married in a church. Also, since they were movies they had a large set in multiple areas with very detailed backgrounds. But now the 2014 play, 1996 movie, and the 1968 drama (all three films) are going to be compared together. All these films had the same exact plot, exactly just like Romeo and Juliet was written. They all kept the language of the original script from Romeo and Juliet, not even changing it a little. All of the films had all of the same characters, no more and no less. In all three films there was some type of religion, from a church, to a sculpture, to an image. Also, all had the famous balcony scene that everyone knows the line “O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo.” Another thing is all the characters that played Romeo were handsome, young men and every Juliet was a perfectly gorgeous young women.
