Romeo and Juliet and Gnomeo and Juliet are two different stories with the same plot and meaning. One is the traditional story created by William Shakespeare while the other is a British-American movie that came out in 2011. In this essay it tells the differences between the two and how they relate and differ. Romeo and Juliet is a more young-adult play meant for older readers. The mood of the play was more sad and depressing because Juliet and Romeo were getting separated, they ended up dying in the end.
Throughout the scene, most, if not all, of Romeo’s dialogue can be simplified into him professing his love for Juliet.
Some key differences are Romeo and Juliet don’t die, Lady Capulet doesn’t exist, and Juliet realized Romeo had faked his death, but Romeo never realized Juliet faked her death. First and foremost, both stories have two rivaling groups which form the base of the story. In Romeo and Juliet, these rivaling groups are the Montague and Capulets, but since Gnomeo and Juliet are intended for the younger audience, the rivaling groups are Red and Blue. This could also, however, be taken as a difference between both stories because the feud between Montague and the Capulets goes much more in-depth. In Gnomeo and Juliet, the two houses are fighting each other over a lawn, and their brawls are a little more playful.
After the transition to gnomes, viewers cannot relate to the characters and they lose much of their empathy towards them. Converting the characters to gnomes also brings comedy to the story through some of the activities that the gnomes participate in. Activities such as lawnmower racing makes the story more comical and veers away from the tragic nature of the original story. While the gnomes in Gnomeo and Juliet have the same personalities as the humans in Romeo and Juliet, the transition into gnomes takes away from the serious and calamitous essence of the original story. The second major difference between Romeo and Juliet and Gnomeo and Juliet is the characters not dying in Gnomeo and Juliet.
Gnomeo and Juliet is an accurate portrayal of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet because it uses all of the iconic and essential components while still adding new elements. There are many recognizable examples of Shakespeare’s version in Gnomeo and Juliet. One is the Montague and Capulet family feud. In Gnomeo and Juliet, they are represented by colors more than last names, blues (Montague) and reds (Capulet). In both stories, the family feud is very prevalent throughout the entire story until the end, when it becomes resolved.

And now we are going to tell it again. But different.

As well as making the deaths of the characters less sad the movie Gnomeo and Juliet also changes the vernacular of the characters and adds comedy to make the overall storyline. One of the ways Disney changed the aces ability of the play was by changing old English to new English vernacular. Because they change the vernacular they are able to reach a younger audience; one of the ways Disney uses vernacular is by adding in jokes and slang that a younger ordinance can relate to. In “Gnomeo and Juliet” the gardens cause the feud. The gnomes constantly try to have the better gardens and will even go as far as to purposely sabotage the other group's garden. This differs from the cause of the feud in Romeo and Juliet. In Romeo and Juliet, the feud begins over the want for power, even at the very end of the play the two families still try to outshine each other. Lord Montague says that he will make Juliet a “statue in pure gold” ( Shakespeare 5.3.316)

Also, this portrait is one of the most famous portrait during the Renaissance. Back then wealthy people, like kings; nobles; etc., were able to afford the portrait, but now most people can afford it.
Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare, originally published in 1597. It is a tragedy of two star-crossed lovers, who fall in love with each other despite their families hate. The play is taught in many schools and it is often coupled with a movie adaption of the play. There have been many movie adaptations of Romeo and Juliet done and yet there are only a few out of the five I have watched that I would recommend. The top one that I would recommend is the 1968 version, directed by Franco Zeffirelli.
