Romeo and Juliet and Gnomeo and Juliet are two different stories with the same plot and meaning. One is the traditional story created by William Shakespeare while the other is a British-American movie that came out in 2011. In this essay it tells the differences between the two and how they relate and differ. Romeo and Juliet is a more young-adult play meant for older readers. The mood of the play was more sad and depressing because Juliet and Romeo were getting separated, they ended up dying in the end. In Act 5 scene 3 both Juliet and Romeo die for each other which lead to no happy ending. Gnomeo and Juliet is more a child movie and was directed towards younger children. Instead of finding a way to fix things, they tried to find ways around it. Juliet faked her death because Romeo was banished and she was being forced to marry another. Instead of finding another way to leave and be with Romeo, she fakes her death which causes Romeo’s death. Benvolio in this story was a peacemaker and tried not to fight but wanted peace. He only fought when it was necessary. In Gnomeo and Juliet the characters are rebellious and do what they think to themselves as right. They left their areas to go meet each other and spend time with each other. Juliet in this movie was much more rebellious than anyone else. After her father told her not to leave her area, she still left to go retrieve the flower which created her encounter with Gnomeo. Benvolio in this story was more willing to fight and is the reason Gnomeo and Juliet almost died. He formed a whole plan to destroy the whole red garden. In both stories they have settings that involve Verona. One being Verona, Italy and the other being Verona Drive in England. They both were near each other with things that clearly marked their territory. Both movies had the same theme being to fight for your love and not leave it for anyone else.
