Winter Dreams by F. Scott Fitzgerald is about a young man named Dexter Green who starts off as a golf caddy and then becomes very successful later on. The main point of the story is not his success, though: it is about the girl he meets and falls in love with named Judy Jones; more specifically it is about his dreams.

When the US entered WWI, women all over the country had to step up into new leadership roles, ones that had never been filled by women prior to the war. Men of the households were rushed out of the house and on to the battlefields, leaving openings in the workplaces, and the homes. Women began becoming self-sufficient and were forced to rely on themselves and other women.

The Great Gatsby and the short story “Winter Dreams” have similar storylines, but I prefer the movie for a variety of reasons. The movie emphasized numerous symbols such as the blue eye billboard which interested me to further determine the meaning. Also, the movie represented the jazz era in detail, especially with the characters’ appearances and the activities they engaged in. I also liked the ironic scene when Daisy murdered Tom’s mistress, Myrtle. While reading “Winter Dreams”, many clarifications were needed in order to comprehend.

Although Daisy and Judy have similarities, a stand out similarity is how flirtacious they can become. His impulsive decisions have both negative and positive consequences that he has to live with In the winter Dexter skis down the hills of Sherry Island Golf Club, and in the warm seasons he would caddy there.
