Scott Fitzgerald wrote the story "Winter Dreams," which later inspired his famous novel "The Great Gatsby." The novel tells the story of a man from the Midwest who dreams of climbing the social ladder on the East Coast to win the heart of a woman. Although "The Great Gatsby" is based on "Winter Dreams," they have both similarities and differences. I think Fitzgerald purposely changed "The Great Gatsby" to develop the characters further. By making the story longer, Fitzgerald was able to create more complex characters with detailed backgrounds, motivations, and personalities.
