Seasons, daylight, night dark, can mean so many different things in a short story. Several modernism stories and poems display this to make the reader envision why they wrote the story the way they did. F. Scott Fitzgerald brilliantly displays his theme with the symbolic use of seasons and how they relate to the characters feelings in the story Winter Dreams. Universal symbols are used to develop different themes in writer's work.
In Winter Dreams, F, Scott Fitzgerald uses winter as a feeling that he has towards his present and future throughout the story. But the only thing is that the drama that he ends up going through is not putting him where he wants to be in life, financially. The symbol of saying winter comes from him feeling cold in his feelings and desolate. That's typically how many people feel during the winter months. And showing that that's when he started to build his wealth says something. Meaning wealth does not bring happiness or success to one's self. In Dexter's past he has always longed for success. His father owned the second best grocery store in their little town and worked just to earn some extra change. Being a caddie made him dream big and want the best. Because the wealthy country club members set the bar pretty high for what it looked like to be happy.

People’s minds change or their perceptions of a long dream change. Dexter is now losing sight of what he once wanted to what he thinks is best for him. He starts falling in love with a woman who he had once caddied for when they were young. Judy came from wealth and would only associate with wealth. The story continues on with the rapid ups and downs in their relationship, and Dexter comes the conclusion of going to war and handing over his business to his partner. This is all taking place in the winter months, the months of desolate isolation as said earlier in the story. But continuing on through the spring time; improvement where all the cold was
