Tension Exists in “Confetti Girl,” and, “Tortilla Sun.”

Parents and children sometimes don’t see eye to eye. In the passage, “Confetti Girl,” the story is about a girl who is looking for connection with her father. In the story, “Tortilla Sun,” the narrator and her mother have different views on the mom continuing her studies in Costa Rica. Both passages, “Confetti Girl,” and, “Tortilla Sun,” the narrators and their parents each have different point of views on their corresponding situations; therefore, these differences cause tension between characters. In the passage, “Tortilla Sun,” Izzy is upset with her mother for leaving to finish her studies in Costa Rica. When Izzy is presented with her mother leaving, Izzy finds out that she is moving to New Mexico with her grandmother and she doesn’t want to go. In paragraph 24 of, “Tortilla Sun,” the text reads, “‘New Mexico is worlds away from California. And what am I going to do for two whole months with someone I haven’t seen since I was six? That was half my life ago. She’s a stranger!’ I felt a sudden urge to bolt for the front door and run.” The text allows us to infer that she doesn’t like having to leave to go to New Mexico. In both, “Confetti Girl,” and, “Tortilla Sun,” the passages are about children having conflicts with their parents. An example from, “Confetti Girl,” having a conflict with their parents is when the narrator is eating dinner with her dad and getting sarcastic with him when he brings up English. An example of child-parent conflict in, “Tortilla Sun,” is when Izzy finds out she's going to New Mexico with her grandmother for two months so her mom can finish her studies in Costa Rica. These pieces of evidence are key details when it comes to connecting them together in similarities and differences; however, these passages will both always have at least one similarity that connects them, and that being that they both have a conflict with one parent.
