Zareef Peeroo Tim Bailey October 15, 2014 Athenians vs. Spartans The differences between government, the role of women, and the education status of Athens and Sparta led to similar yet very different societies residing in the same area; therefor I will deconstruct these issues using an analytical comparative framework. In, Athens and Sparta, it shows all the differences between the Athenians and the Spartans. Although the two City States shared a common heritage, their differences grew so large in their own minds that they were ultimately willing to engage in a life-and-death struggle to support their separate realities (Spielvogel).
The Roman Republic and American Government, although separated by over 2 millennia, are obviously very similar to each other. With their similarities in foundation and their government might just be an indication that maybe the American government could be based off of the Roman Republic. Leaders in both, Julius Caesar and Abraham Lincoln have some commonalities. The time separating these two great governments doesn’t change their similarities and differences.
The Roman Empire is considered to be one of the greatest empires in all of history. During its centuries long run, the empire was able to conquer and rule large portions of Europe and Africa. As such, the Roman Empire is often used as the model for the creation of a successful government. The United States, a modern major power, has a government that closely mirrors of ancient Rome. The three-branch system currently used by the US government was originally a concept created and developed by the Romans.

The United States Government is a government formed and influenced off of other successful governments, the Roman Republic being one of them. While the Roman Republic and our current United States Government have many similarities, they also have many differences. One example of a similarity is how the government was divided. Just like the Roman government, the United States government is divided into three parts: the executive branch, the legislative branch, and the judicial branch. Even though they were not called these names in Rome, they are almost the same thing.
The Ancient Roman government kept its government officials from becoming dictators. The Roman Republic had three parts. Most of the government officials had a term limit. The American Democracy has three branches that divide powers. The different branches of government have different powers.
The governmental structure and entertainment of civilizations are extremely important. It shapes the culture, defines legal systems and guidelines, and provides an example for citizens to follow. A well-designed government structure is a vital part of any civilization's development. Both the civilizations of ancient Rome and the United States share similarities. Not only in the government but also in the daily life of the citizens who live there.
The legacy of Ancient Rome is still felt today in western culture in areas such as government, law, language, architecture, engineering, and religion. Government Many modern-day governments are modeled after the Roman Republic. Concepts such as balance of powers, veto, and representation all were developed and recorded by the Romans. The United States has three branches of government similar to the Roman Republic. The Executive Branch (President) is similar to the elected consuls of Rome.
The Romans had a system of indirect democracy where the people had the power to vote for representatives who would advocate for them on the state level. The Greeks had a government in which the people directly were involved in the governmental and legislative process. In addition, both systems were flawed in their representation of their people in their respective governments through neglecting a large portion of their population. Both societies did well to create term lengths to decrease the likelihood of corruption and abuse of power through creating accountability. However, the Greek democracy was a caliber above its counterpart.

There are many similarities that can be noticed between the American Nation and the Roman Empire such as the same founding of government and both dominated in military, and economic similarities. Rome is famous for their harsh discipline amongst their own ranks and their mercifulness brutality amongst their enemies. Rome warfare was characterized by great ferocity and the roman pursuit of victory was determined. Rome gave many good ideas; the senate was ruled by the people of Rome. The Roman Republic Government was a large complex constitution, which was secure by many checks and balances, so that no man could have complete control.

The people of Ancient Greece were very religious compare to today’s society. They believed in different Gods whom they thought had super human strengths. There were various painting on stones, vases and bronze sculptures that portray the major gods and goddesses. These idols were depicted either by themselves or in traditional mythological situations in which they interact with humans and a broad range of minor deities, demi-gods and legendary characters. Even though the men spend a great deal away from home they were still in charge of their household.
Ancient Greek and ancient Rome are often confused with one another even though there are great differences between the two. Both countries are Mediterranean but have social class differences, different mythology, different life values and different architectural concepts. It is said that much of what Rome used in everyday life was taken from the ancient Greek civilization as the ancient Greek civilization started 5th century BC. And it was not till hundreds of years later that the roman civilization started. Cities in Ancient Greece were differentiated by hills.
The Greeks and Romans seem to be extremely influential on our modern civilization. Many Greek and Roman traditions and cultures play major roles in our civilization. These traditions and cultures are displayed throughout our government, education, art, architect, cultural activities, and many other things. I assert the most influential ideas the Greeks and Romans had are displayed in our government, art, and architecture. Their ideas have inspired over 25 centuries, growing and changing over time, and still remain in our modern civilization.
