Was Rome different or similar to the U.S? Well, Rome´s government was similar to, but their religion was different from ours completely. Also, their activities weren´t the same but not completely different. Therefore, Rome was like the U.S today because of government, and somewhat of activities. Roman government was very similar to the U.S in different ways.
America is very similar to Ancient Rome, but there are several differences. For example, the Roman Empire "fell" and America is still “standing”. Before ancient Rome “fell”, Rome started out as a small settlement of farmers on the Palatine hill. About one hundred years later, Rome became a republic. The Roman Empire started when Pax Romana or Roman peace began in 27 BCE under the rule of Augustus Caesar.
We both also took in many immigrants. That is why America will fall like Rome. America much like Rome, thinks they have the best army and can defeat anyone. The U.S. is in 5 different wars right now. Rome like to expand their land.
Many Americans today many not be the most familiar with ancient Greek and Roman history but our founding fathers certainly were and in “their quest to match the deeds of the ancients the founders became our heros… [t]he founders drove the ancients from their pedestals and occupied their places” (ix). Carl J. Richard seeks to highlight the influence the ancients had on our founders. I believe that Richard is very effective in accomplishing his goal of demonstrating what lessons the founding fathers learned from the greeks and the romans as well as how those ideas shaped the foundations of the American government. He accomplished this through his use of clear and specific examples throughout greek and roman history and he showcases direct connections
When trying to form a government for the United States, the Founding Fathers attempted to incorporate the strengths of the many government systems. Besides well-known European precedents — from Greece, Rome, and English common law, among others —Iroquois Confederacy ideas of democracy also assisted in the shaping of the United States government
Even with all the technologies that America attains, they can still be compared to Rome. Cullen Murphy’s question is fair more so on the fact that previous American leaders used “republican political models” and the examples he used for America becoming a “principate”. There has been controversies over “personal freedom” and the government keeping secrets. I like how he brought up how Rome was “overwhelmed by the consequences of its own growing size and might”. America grown tremendously, not to mention their power.
Similarities That American Society Shares With Ancient Greece Ancient Greece produced many patterns and fashions that America has imitated. This civilization, more than any other, has molded what Americans observe and use architecturally today. Everywhere people look, they can see designs from Ancient Greece in this country. America has been inspired and influenced by the Greeks; therefore, there are replicated ideas of ancient Greece seen in many of America’s buildings. In the United States’ capital, there are buildings, especially the Capitol, which have borrowed ideas and patterns from some of Greece’s structures.

The relationship between ancient Rome and modern America has been a topic of interest for many scholars, writers, and politicians. All of the readings on Rome and America are influenced by political considerations to varying degrees. Some writers may have a particular agenda or ideological perspective that colors their interpretation of the relationship between ancient Rome and modern America. Others may strive for objectivity and attempt to present a balanced view of the topic. However, it is important to recognize that any analysis of the relationship between Rome and America is inherently political.
The Roman empire was one of the most powerful or the most powerful empire in ancient times. A portion of this can be credited to its location in an area with good geography and climate. Lincoln was a supporter of stopping the expansion of slavery which won him the popularity of the northern states.
There are many similarities that can be noticed between the American Nation and the Roman Empire such as the same founding of government and both dominated in military, and economic similarities. Rome is famous for their harsh discipline amongst their own ranks and their mercifulness brutality amongst their enemies. Rome warfare was characterized by great ferocity and the roman pursuit of victory was determined. Rome gave many good ideas; the senate was ruled by the people of Rome. The Roman Republic Government was a large complex constitution, which was secure by many checks and balances, so that no man could have complete control.
Two Authors, Two Books, Two Religions Nowadays, Greek and Roman mythology are considered fiction, but once upon a time they were known as very serious religions. Despite the similarities between the two, such as their gods, origins, and beliefs, they were known as enemies. They often fought over these similarities to argue which side was better. Not only was their conflict because of the resemblance to one another, they also clashed over differences such as their heroes and the characteristics of their gods. Knowing what makes them alike or what makes them different is a good way to understand the religion and also the way of life during the Greece and Roman times.
The General Assembly and Senate established a sense of importance in Rome. The General Assembly was made up of Plebeians, and the Senate consists of Patricians. The terms General Assembly and Senate are two of many terms still used in the US Government today. The Romans were led by a king who was approved by the senate and a vote of the people, which is also displayed in the US Government. This is displayed in our presidential elections.
