Patriotism is an emotional attachment to a nation or a place where the individual recognizes as their homeland and they feel the need to protect it with their life. In both The Great Gatsby and Marvel Civil War, patriotism and the lack of ability to repair one's faults were expressed with each main character. Nick was right smack dab in the middle of an emotional loss of a friend and the worst part is that Nick could only watch Gatsby slip away from humanity. In Marvel Civil War, the reader had a chance to decide with whom they thought had a better argument, the information was put in front of the readers and the readers had to make a decision for themselves on who they wanted to win.
