Different Punishment of Plagiarism in Fanshaw College and Centennial College

Many universities or college students overlooked the plagiarism, also ESL students may not know of or that they can be punished for, is an offense in North American universities or college. It is dishonest writing in academic to use another’s languages or thoughts as your own. (Nall & Gherwash, Aug 12, 2013. http://owl.english.purdue.edu/ ). For example, a student combines some copied sources from other author’s, while changing a few words and orders without quotation and citation, is called “Patchworking” which a term was introduced by Rebecca Moore Howard (as cited in Aug 12, 2013). There is one professor who criticized the punishment policy of plagiarism which is running in most universities and college. He mentioned that We can think that plagiarism is a heavy guilty, but in the reality, it is punished lightly because professors does not want to punished their students, so they just reduce the students’ grade or deduct mark. The minimum punishment is warning, but according to system of punishment, it can apply with other punishments. For example, professor can warn a student with reducing the grades of assignment. Centennial College gives lower grade overall in the course, and Centennial ban the student from reapplying to the College for a specific period. If the offense is serious, the student suspend from college for a minimum of one full academic year, even they are expelled and sometimes their Centennial College academic credential, credit, award can be revoked by Centennial College.
