Normally humans fall in love, not garden gnomes and zombies. Using film techniques the films, Gnomeo & Juliet and Warm Bodies present their protagonists in the same way. The protagonist in Gnomeo & Juliet, Gnomeo, is presented similar to the protagonist in Warm Bodies, R. In the film Gnomeo & Juliet, Gnomeo is presented as a young adventures protagonist that all the blue gnomes look up to. Gnomeo is presented similar to Romeo in the play Romeo & Juliet. For example, using film techniques the director uses a mid shot, eye level to show that Gnomeo is young cheeky gnome at the start of the film. Using this technique makes you feel like Gnomeo is the type of person that does things to make him a hero. Another example is when Gnomeo races Tybalt from the Capulets and the blues are singing "Gnomeo, Gnomeo" while the reds are cheering for Tybalt. In Warm Bodies, R is presented as a lonely and emotional zombie. Similar to Gnome & Juliet, R is presented similar to Romeo by making him fall in love with someone who he not to fall in love with someone who they are not to be with. In both films the main idea presented is that true love can change people. For example In Gnomeo & Juliet, at the end of the film, Mrs Montague and Mr Capulet are shown shaking hands which is a symbolic gesture of showing their agreement to end in the family feud. A medium shot, high angle show this.This is a result of Gnomeo and Juliet's love for each other. Similarly in Warm Bodies Jules and R's love causes the zombies to feel human, presented by their glowing red hearts, ending the war between the humans and zombies, presented by the city wall being collapsed.
