All of the places in the world had to be shaped and established by significant historical figures. New York, has, and still continues to be, shaped by many prominent individuals. New York would not be the state it is today without the trials and tribulations of many crucial citizens. Two individuals that had a very prominent role in the construction of the state we know, and love, are Theodore Roosevelt and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Roosevelt, former governor of New York state, and the twenty-sixth President of the United States, worked hard to preserve the natural resources in New York and throughout the United States. Stanton, a leading force in the women’s rights movement and a determined suffragist, helped to organize the first Women’s Rights Convention in New York. Both individuals played a significant role in two very prominent historical eras of the state. Stanton was best known as a suffragist and civil rights activist. Stanton helped to create and organize the first women’s rights convention held in 1848, in Seneca Falls, New York. In addition, in 1863, Stanton worked with Susan B. Anthony, fellow suffragist, to create the National Women’s Loyal League, this group was created to help campaign for a constitutional amendment to end slavery. With persistent petitioning, the league significantly helped to abolish slavery and push for the thirteenth amendment. The dynamic duo, also teamed up to create the National Woman Suffrage Association. This association was formed in 1869 to combat against the lack of women inclusion in the fifteenth amendment, opposing the fact that women were still unable to vote.
