If the Coen brothers intended their movie Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? to be an accurate retelling of Homer’s Odyssey, they certainly succeeded in some aspects, however not completely. Through the use of secondary characters, ambitious encounters, and determined heroes, readers and viewers are able to recognize the similar plots, while also noticing slight adaptations in the modern remake. Both Odysseus’ and Everett’s family, friends, and comrades play a major role in their journies.

Setting/ Characterization of society as a whole:
Starting at the top of the hierarchy, we see how the financially well off were rarely affected by a social tragedy. They were effectively isolated from the outside world were the real work and progress was made and at the same time, they were almost immune to disease and other atrocities that gripped the working class. Lawmakers were trying to make progress for public health through sanitation reform and waste management but the lack of understanding within this community prevented progress and often made situations worse for the citizens. Working class people lived a grim life for the most part. Living in cramped and dirty homes, they were the real victims of this industrial age.
A Tale of Two Cities The era was at its peak, while remaining at its worst. It was the era of intelligence, with ignorance prominent everywhere. It was the era of faithfulness, but was surrounded with skepticism.
A Tale of Two Cities, written by Charles Dickens, surrounds the cities of Paris and London during the late 1700’s. The novel takes place during the French Revolution, a period of social and political upheaval in France and England. While peasants died in the streets from hunger, aristocrats had more money and power than they knew what to do with. A Tale of Two Cities describes, in detail, the poverty of the time period, as well as the struggle of a people able to overcome oppression. The novel is largely based off of occurrences Dickens experienced during his childhood.
Both Our Town and Midnight in Paris convey a similar message in a similar way. The works follow the characters of Emily and Gil and their eventual enlightenment of their situation. Our Town and Midnight in Paris are very similar works that share the same lesson, displayed with only a few differences. Most conspicuously, both of the characters go back in time one way or another. Emily of Our Town goes back to the day of her twelfth birthday after she gains the ability to do so with her death.
Well I have and let me explain how the quote from my first paragraph can support this. Well in the book “A Tale of Two Cities” there are a lot of examples of evil signs or “Good vs.Evil”, for example "Keep where you are because, if I should make a mistake, it could never be set right in your lifetime. This quote from the book basically shows what I mean by the word “evil’” because someone is warning somebody else in a harassing why, if they do or don’t this then the rest of there lives would be horrible or hard. Many people take for granted the things that they should value the most and appreciate in life whether it be people they love, places they love, or even things they love. There are some who want to live life to the fullest and are appreciative of what they have, and there are some who are just greedy and are never satisfied. However, in the story Our Town by Thorton Wilder and the movie Midnight in Paris by Woody Allen, both characters Gil and Emily come to realize how much they love and value either their family or the city of Paris, and where their status is now, which they can’t change. Gil and Emily learn, even if it is the hard route, that they need to accept what they missed in life and appreciate what they did have. Yet, the difference

This story begins in a courtroom which takes place during medieval times close to the Feast of the Ascension. The Noble King wants to reward everyone including all of the animals. At the feast, everyone shows up and they all complain about Renard. At the feast everyone exposes Renard for all of the crimes he has committed. A few days later Renard is facing charges after committing horrific crimes that involve the molestation of Ysengrin’s wife.
Oppression has always been prevalent throughout history, and as a response to this, the exploited often revolt, in turn, causing inciteful change. However, when the revolution only seeks revenge, it fosters more violence and creates a more oppressed society. The French Revolution while successful in the sense that it overthrew the government, has one dangerous aspect in common with oppression: violence. This revolution is depicted in A Tale of Two Cities by Dickens, where the persecuted peasants of France start a rebellion to try and achieve revenge government. However, by using violence as the primary method to abolish the government and boasting about the dominance of the revolution through the Carmagnole, the revolutionaries discredit themselves.

In the novel A Tale of Two Cities written by Charles Dickens, Dicken uses Doctor Alexandre Manette inconsistent character development to suggest that self realization is the only way to overcome a crisis, which express that all people should rely on themselves rather than search for others in order to achieve recovery.
This essay will examine the historical accuracy of the film Les Miserables in terms of the social, economic and political conditions in French society post French Revolution. The film Les Miserables depicts an extremely interesting time in French history (from about 1815-1832.) Even though the story line does not depict every detail and event that occurred during the time period as well as the fact that some aspects are dramatized for entertainment purposes, the film effectively spans thirty years of economic, political and social aspects of French Society. However it also manages to bring in references to the past, the French Revolution (1789-1799) and the impact it had on the society portrayed in the film.
Duality is an instance of opposition or contrast between two concepts or two aspects of something. The author, Charles Dickens, uses duality throughout the fictional novel, A Tale of Two Cities, to bring characters who would be thought of as polar opposites together. Dickens begins the novel by says, "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times"(3). The author begins the book with the quote to show the duality straight away because best and worst are opposite of eachother. Such as when the discovery of the main characters in England and France are all somehow tied together.
