In the novel Lord of the Flies, it is obvious that the character Jack is the savage compared to all the other boys on the island. Jack is the cause of all the arguments and death that will later occur on the island. Many of the boys on the island are scared of Jack when he acts cruel and selfish. This makes them join his group, so they don't have to worry about getting hurt. During a group meeting Jack says “We shall take fire from the others,” (Golding 161).

As part of human nature, we’re accustomed to following a set of rules to have an orderly and peaceful lifestyle. Usually, if those rules are disobeyed, destruction and disorder are bound to come our way. This act is prevalent in two stories, Beowulf and The Lord of the Flies, that were written centuries apart, but yet the concept of how ignoring rules can lead to the downfall of societies is common in both. Usually, a well-built society derives from a strong leader who has the characteristics of guiding people to do the right actions. Such an example would be Beowulf who is viewed as a God-like hero and is highly respected.
In the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee talks about discrimination based on gender role, age, and skin color. The characters in this book all have different personalities that influences others. Maycomb, Alabama in 1930’s is where everything happened with slavery and struggling with being poor. Machiavelli said it best in his book The Prince, "It is Better to be feared than loved, if you cannot be both. " The main characters of The Lord Of The flies by William Golding, Jack and Ralph, both share the similar goal of becoming leader. As Jack being feared and Ralph being loved, throughout the book you perceive that being feared as a leader maintains order, causes stability, and embodies a sense of respect. Love comes, and it goes. The fact that it's fickle causes it to be an untrustworthy ground to build leadership on.

A decision's effects can be profound. Selfishness is frequently associated with decision-making, but is it really selfish if it's for the greater good? This question is incorporated into John Steinbeck's novella, Of Mice Men, in which George had to make a pivotal decision for the better. Throughout the novella, George is responsible for Lennie, who is mentally handicapped. Due to his mental impairment, Lennie lacks self-awareness in his strength and is unable to refrain from harming people and the animals he cares for.
Miguel Salas Mr. Delgado English 9.4 January 26 2023 The Horror of a Humans True Nature Leadership can be described as how well you can plan and lead people to a better future. ” I’ve learned that it is not what I have in my life but who I have in my life that counts. ”(http://www.searchquotes.com/quotation/I%27ve_learned_that%2C_it_is_not_what_I_have_in_my_life_but_who_I_have_in_my_life_that_counts./447970/) .What this quote means is that friends are someone that are worth more then anything else. As a child, have you ever wondered how it would feel to be able to fly like a bird? Many people do not know what a typical bird does during their day to day life. But a Mockingbird is not any typical type of bird. “Kill all the bluejays you want, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird” (117). The previous quote is a world widely known quote; stated by Atticus; a character from the book To Kill a Mockingbird; authored by Harper Lee.
Humanity and reason is a necessity in a sane society, and racism is furthest from humane. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is all about humanity and integrity. There are many examples of the book including racial prejudice, but also having morals of compassion, and companionship. Of Mice and Men also includes the feeling of loneliness and chasing your dreams. An overall argument John Steinbeck is trying to make in Of Mice and Men is that racism is not humane.
Of Mice and Men is primarily a book about two migrant workers, who jump from one job to another every now and again so they can survive everyday life. But to get into a little bit how the book goes starting off with the main characters. George and Lennie, face various situations where Lennie unpredictably and dangerously gets into problems that he can not get himself out of; which is where his partner George comes in who leads him in the correct direction. But unfortunately, as many know, all journeys must end sooner or later. That being said, Of Mice and Men depicts that all violence and mistakes in life are inescapable.
In the novella Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck the quotation from Steinbeck himself is illustrated in the novella. My interpretation of the quotation is that everybody is lonely and we try to feel less lonely, one of the ways we do this is by storytelling. The method is as old as time yet it works. We try to show a connection through this by relating to the story, we feel the same way about it. We understand how the storyteller is feeling, sometimes we have to beg for it.
