Why is it important to have mutual respect and compassion in a relationship? Respect and compassion in a bond help build trust and safety between both people in the bond. In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the lack of respect and not listening/caring between Lord Capulet and Juliet causes Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. In Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver Sam shows respect and compassion and helps Sam bring back one of her friendship from the past. In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare and Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver, having respect and compassion generates a strong alliance, while not listening or caring about what the other people want/need destroys an alliance. In the play, Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare William and the novel Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver, compassion form a good bond, although not listening and not caring about what the other person wants/thinks. In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, bonds are weakened through Lord Capulet and Juliet’s relationship by not listening/caring about what the other person wants/needs when Lord Capulet told Juliet that she will marry Paris. “Disobedient wretch!
