My bill is on comprehensive sexual education. I decided to go with this bill because I strongly believe that sex ed should be more than just abstinence. My goal by getting this bill passed is to be able to inform the students in a way they will actually understand and follow through. Just telling them that it’s bad won’t do them any good and majority of the time they won’t listen. So I believe that if students are supposed to learn this course, why not teach it so they learn what else comes of the course instead of just abstinence. What many teachers tend to set their mind on is that the students are going to feel uncomfortable and a little embarrassed to learn about this particular subject. It will also decrease the amount of STD’s because now that the student’s have become aware of what they are and how they get them they will become more cautious and learn to do it the safe way to prevent STD’s from happening. This will help the students as they continue to grow because they have become informed with the correct amount of information and are able to keep that knowledge with them as they go. Since they are learning this subject the students tend to delay the time they decide to have sex. Which is better for them because then they have time to mature and know when the time is right. So then when the time is right they are well informed of the precautions needed to be taken when they become sexually active. In 2007, Congress concluded that abstinence programs didn’t work. When they went to evaluate they had discovered that the programs didn’t increase abstinence. By having comprehensive sex ed students will be able to learn more than just abstinence. Sex ed is also very important for women to learn because they learn about pregnancy and learn about their reproductive system which is something very important and a women should know before they get
