On page 16, the reader begins to see the act of compromise between the two characters. Each character was willing to give up or change something in their life in order to please their significant other. For example, one of the characters was willing to give up a deodorant brand because their significant other described them as smelling like whole foods. In return, their significant other was willing to cover their toes whenever around the other character simply because they hated their toe hair. Neither character was selfish in the idea of making a simple change to satisfy each other. Both characters were open to the idea of giving up something they loved which allowed the characters to tolerate each other longer than if there was no compromise put in place. The author implies the fact that they met on an online dating site. Both characters are aware of the abnormality of the situation yet they continue on with the act of seeing each other in person. These characters admit to not really engaging in online dating because it made them uncomfortable.
