There are two conflicts in this novel. One is external and the other is internal. Since the spot of protagonist is expressed two people this paragraph is going to be explained in four different ways. The external, expressed by man vs. man, conflict revolves around the jealousy of both protagonist, Phineas and Gene, which leads to a very unhealthy friendship. An example of this is when Gene knocked Phineas off the tree who gradually died from injures. The internal conflict also revolves around jealousy but is not easily seen. Due to the fact the both of the protagonist are totally different from one another, they seem to want to have the characteristic that the opposite character has. These conflicts are sadly resolved by the death of Phineas,
